What We Collect

ShelfShock is designed to be privacy-friendly. When you use our dashboard, we collect minimal data:

City name you enter: Sent to our analysis API to generate your personalised report. We do not store your city searches permanently — they are processed in real time and discarded after the response is generated.

Analytics data: We use Vercel Analytics, Google Analytics 4, and Google Tag Manager to understand how people use ShelfShock — page views, time on site, and general usage patterns. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.

No account required: ShelfShock does not require signup, login, or any personal information. You can use the full dashboard without providing your name, email, or any identifiers.

How We Use Your Data

The city you enter is sent to our backend API, which fetches cost-of-living data for that location and generates an AI-powered analysis using Anthropic's Claude. The analysis is returned to your browser and is not stored on our servers.

Analytics data is used solely to improve the product — understanding which features are used, identifying bugs, and measuring overall traffic.

Third-Party Services

ShelfShock uses the following third-party services:

Vercel — hosting and analytics. Google Analytics / GTM — traffic analytics. Yahoo Finance — live commodity prices (no personal data sent). financialdata.net — historical price data (no personal data sent). Anthropic Claude — AI analysis generation (city name only, no personal data).

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them if you have concerns about how your data is processed downstream.

Cookies

ShelfShock itself does not set cookies. However, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager may set cookies to track anonymous usage data. You can disable these by using a browser extension like uBlock Origin or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings.

Data Retention

We do not maintain a database of user queries or personal data. API requests are processed in real time. Server logs may temporarily contain request metadata (IP addresses, timestamps) as part of standard infrastructure operation, and these are automatically rotated and deleted within 30 days.
